The curse of modern fandom is that it has allowed fans to get even closer to artists, but they won’t view the artists as people.
Human limits, human mistakes, human feelings, human needs, are never ascribed to artists, and when other fans rightfully point out, “hey, humans are making this, maybe don’t harass them or demand they cater to your personal tastes,” it gets shut down under, “uh, people who make popular mainstream things are automatically Public Figures who are also probably rich, so eat the rich and destroy artists over every perceived minor fault. <3”
Even though there’s, y'know, a really big strike currently going on because those artists are very much not rich or influential or in control of the bullshit.
The more friends I make in the various facets of the entertainment industry, and the more widely my own art gets shared, the more I realize that a lot of y'all genuinely don’t see artists as human beings if they meet some arbitrary standard of Being Known Online.
There is no amount of online fame that makes someone subhuman and a valid target for blatant disrespect and harassment.
Contrary to popular belief, you do not actually own and control a piece of art just because you like it a lot. The artists are not subject to your personal whims and tastes. They owe you nothing.
But I just can’t with Ashley’s constant negativity and criticism laced with blatant racism. Kaidan isn’t that bad but it’s a little painful hearing his bland musings on things when I can have Garrus give me the gossip on who he suspects is bribing the cops and Wrex being Wrex.
Garrus is so fucking skinny in his C-Sec uniform jfc
I forgot the Very first one on one conversation they have is Shepard yelling at Garrus not to… you know… shoot people just because he wants to.
And then my friend reminded me that literally a couple of hours before this he was shooting at a hostage slkjskjdfhsdkj
Imagine getting recruited to a brand new ship and the first thing you do is piss off your new commander so much she scolds you like a 12 year old.
Phenomenal job, Vakarian.
Greatest romance in video games.
These are getting more and more OOC as I go sdkashsdfh I’ll rein it in to be less so when I do more but I figured it’s ok if it’s funny. (also I forgot how 🥺 baby he is in the first game)
fucking constant reboot remake reboot remake reboot remake reboot remake!!!!!!!!!! the tv has only been around for like a century you literally cannot be out of ideas already
This is an open secret at this point, everybody who works in the entertainment industry can tell you the execs literally, outright say they do not want original properties anymore. With a new property you have to spend the time and money getting people invested. If you make the 34785th remake and staple some nostalgia on it for good measure, you’ll make bank because there’s already a dedicated group of people to market to. People will watch it if it’s good, because it’s a revival of something they care about. People will REALLY watch it if it’s bad, because hatewatching is almost even more profitable in this day and age. It’s all about getting the biggest return for the smallest financial investment, and nostalgia is MUCH more profitable than original projects. It’s all corporate bullshit in the end.
So anyway, please support the originals who make it in spite of everything, and please especially support independent creators and projects!
I know that Mass Effect 3 gets a lot of shit - and fuck knows it deserves it - but I swear it also has the ability to make me feel more emotions than any other piece of media ever has.
Forget the endings bullshit, and the ridiculousness of Kai Leng - it’s about Javik’s voice when he asks you “Why didn’t you prepare for the reapers, human?” It’s the old lady whose daughter is dead on earth, but she doesn’t know, and doesn’t remember she’s talking to her asari daughter in law. It’s the kid in the refugee camp, waiting for her parents. It’s Mordin singing Amazing Grace, Thane’s last prayer, Legion and Tali on Rannoch - does this unit have a soul? It’s asking the elcor ambassador how many of his people you managed to save and hearing “Not. Enough.” It’s hearing the casualty reports over the radio in London - areas reporting 90, 95 percent casualties - and knowing there’s nothing you can do. It’s hearing Anderson whisper “You did good, child” as he dies. It’s hearing Hackett’s voice and standing up one last time, ready to fight, ready to die.
I love Hideo Kojima he makes multiple games where characters give long winded monologues (that he personally wrote) about how US entertainment media is designed to manufacture consent for the military, and then he’ll spend 3 days gushing about Top Gun
Kojima is very anti war, but also he has like a little kid brain where he just loves military hardware and spies and soldiers and he especially loves big machines that go really fast and make huge kabooms, and I think it’s the tension between these two parts of him that makes his art so deliciously insane
“the prefrontal cortex doesn’t fully form until yr 25!!” y do u wish to take more agency away from teens and young adults. y do u refer to phrenology to inform yr worldview. I’m about to undevelop yr prefrontal cortex with a baseball bat if u don’t shut the fuck up
for the ppl who decided something they saw in a scientific american headline their friend posted counts as objective fact, from the Wikipedia list of common misconceptions:
it’s pop science. it’s pseudoscience. it’s phrenology. it’s not real.
